7:51 AM It’s a few years old, but the research says that 63% of Americans believe that “humans and other animals have either always existed in their present form or have evolved over time under the guidance of a supreme being…” In other words, they don’t accept Darwin’s theory of evolution.

In an article in the February 19 issue of Rolling Stone magazine, Ray Kurzweil is noted to say that in or around the year 2045, machine intelligence will surpass that of humans, something he calls the Singularity. Kurzweil is an MIT graduate, a famous inventor, and a recipient of several awards that more than legitimize his mind and (most of) its claims.

It sounds a bit kooky, and several noted scientists say so openly, but as I was reading the article I thought, What about considering his assertion from the evolutionary perspective? It can be argued that homo sapien sapien is the culmination of evolution thus far. So, in my mind, the question becomes: What’s next? Is it really that much of a stretch to consider that evolution is crossing from the field of biology and into the world of technology – the world of physics and chemistry?
