I don’t understand the point of price-matching. Unless I’m already on my way to Wal-Mart to pick up some toilet paper and some Folgers, and out-of-the-blue decide that I want to buy an LCD TV which is advertised cheaper at Best Buy, why would I go to Wal-Mart over Best Buy just to pay the same price for the same product?

Chances are, if you’re interested in price-matching something, it’s a big enough purchase to merit its own trip to the store. I just don’t get why these stores think I would go somewhere other than my default place only to pay the same price. The smart retailers give you at least 10% off their competitor’s lowest advertised price. If the purchase is big enough to justicfy saving 10%, I would go out of my way to buy from them.
