First impression: Full-suspension

I’ve had a whole of two rides on:

K2 Base 3.0

No surprise: Full-suspension riding has its advantages and disadvantages. In short, here’s what I thought while I was riding:

  • Can stay seated through small-to-medium bumps
  • Can bomb through stuff like rocks and roots
  • Requires less thinking (more time for daydreaming)

  • Heavier – more weight to climb with
  • Requires less thinking (less of a need to strategize and pick good lines)
  • More moving parts – more to maintain and break and go wrong

It’s a basic single-pivot design, but it’s a good intro to the world of full-suspension. Overall I can see what draws people to full-suspension over hardtail – basically you can ride longer and harder in greater comfort.
