I needed something other than The Varieties of Religious Experience to read – to, you know, not have to use my brain so much all the time while reading, to not feel so mentally engaged on every sentence and exclaim “Wow!” inside my head on William James’ every immaculately worded passage – so I went looking…

I wanted to try 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, but the local Barnes & Noble is out of stock.

So I went to Costco instead picked up The Moment by an author I haven’t read before, Douglas Kennedy, and so far (60+pages in) it’s not a bad choice.

For instance:

If you’re not reconciled with yourself, how can you ever be reconciled with others?

The Moment by Douglas Kennedy, pg. 15

And this, although not the most eloquently worded, poses a good question:

Everything’s interpretation, after all. As such, we can look back on an action, a gesture, several words uttered without premeditation, and find ourselves wondering: did everything change because of that? Or are we simply rendering the past in such a way to explain the uncomfortable realities of the present?

Pg. 25 (emphasis author’s)

Separately, a few days ago I started listening to the audiobook version of At Home by Bill Bryson.

Song of the day

[Haven't been able to get this song out of my head since I heard it on television somewhere, sometime recently.]

Sail by AWOLNATION

Sail by AWOLNATION on Grooveshark

This is how I show my love
I made it in my mind because
I blame it on my A.D.D. baby

This is how an angel cries
I blame it on my own sick pride
Blame it on my A.D.D. baby

Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!

Maybe I should cry for help
Maybe I should kill myself
Blame it on my A.D.D. baby

Maybe I’m a different breed
Maybe I’m not listening
So blame it on my A.D.D. baby

Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!

La la la la la la oh!

La la la la la la oh!

Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!
Sail!

Sail with me into the dark
Sail!
Sail with me into the dark
Sail!
Sail with me into the dark
Sail!
Sail with me, sail with me
Sail!
